O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree... How fun you are to play with...

When Josh and I had only one dog, it was always easy to determine who caused the mess, chewed the carpet or got sick. We've had Perry for almost a year now - he just passed his first birthday - and he now is coming up on his first Christmas with us.

When we got Perry, Sadie was very possessive (and now they both are - we buy at least two of everything for them) and could become very jealous. That hasn't changed (she is, after all, a purebred corgi), but sometimes you can tell that they truly do like having each other around (like when they won't meet me at the door until the other one is back inside). Perry was definitely my purchase and I'm glad we have him.

Today, however, we saw the disadvantage of having two dogs. Josh came home from class to see a glass ornament shattered - and scattered - all over the ground. The metal ornament top appeared to have been chewed. He didn't take it very well, so when he called me to vent, I had him call the vet, who told him to bring the dogs there immediately.

Being very worried (and not being at home to see the "damage"), I rushed to the vet's office to see Josh's car... not there. He came back at home after paying to be told that we just have to wait and see over the next few days. If something happens, then they may have to operate on the dogs.

The hard thing is - with two of them - we have no clue if both were involved (or worse, if both consumed glass). We'll just have to keep an eye on them whenever we're home. The lesson learned - keep shiny things away from dogs when you're not home! Unfortunately we can no longer trust the dogs to run around the house while we're gone. Since we both aren't home most of the time, this will not be enjoyable for them... I just hope we corrected the problem before they become hurt.

On a brighter note, Tuesday is our "Sonic night" (half price burgers), so it has given me some time to unwind. Some internet surfing led to me to a Yankee Presidential Cookie Primary - which may be interesting to anyone who likes baking. It got me thinking about our favorite snacks. Recently I have decided to try at least one new "sweet" recipe per week. It can be a cookie, candy or other type of snack. (I am pretty good about trying different meal recipes - I just never keep track of which ones I try!) Often the metric I use to determine if a recipe is repeat-worthy is Josh's reaction. Two of the recent ones he's liked are:
  • Oatmeal Toffee Cookies from Martha Stewart (I used dried cranberries instead of cherries)
  • Spiced Pecans from Cooking Light (I added some honey and cinnamon, and used cashews instead of pecans... it couldn't get much easier to make a quick snack)
To conclude, I'm thankful for... two adorable and loving dogs (however mischievous they can be... :) )
