Pseudo-Beginning

A long time ago Josh suggested to me that I start a blog - something I never really considered, figuring with all of the other types of information online, this would certainly not be the most interesting. However, with all of the recent travel experiences and events, I figure that it will be a good way to keep in touch with others and to record my thoughts... so here it goes!

I left Cairo on Thanksgiving morning. While I realize that the opportunity to travel to Cairo and see the pyramids is certainly unique, I could not wait to get home. When I finally got off the plane, there was a sense of relief. I was now able to eat my normal food, as I can only take hotel food for so long, and do enjoy walking down the street without car honks, stares and cat calls. I do associate home with comfort, but traveling has also provided me with a sense of perspective that you cannot easily receive living in a house in the middle of a wooded suburb.

It is easy to return to routine thoughts as soon as you step in the front door. Josh moved the dogs to the backyard before I walked in... and as soon as I walked through the backyard I was flooded with canine enthusiasm. Soon after we said the word "trip" and took our excited dogs to Thanksgiving dinner at my parents' house. It was a nice dinner and a chance to spend some time with family.

The next day I was able to clean the house, decorate the tree and enjoy some delicious Cold Stone (Alicia - there is a holiday mix including dark chocolate mint ice cream... soooo good!). We were also able to watch the Aggie football team win against Texas and the basketball team win the pre-season NIT. We are starting a new tradition - Sadie will be wearing her Aggie sweater every year for the Texas game! Perry also got his first haircut.

Things are now "back to normal" - I have posted my photos online - which only took a few months to complete! - and was able to cook Josh some chicken enchiladas and toffee. It's good to be home.

To keep the grateful perspective, I'm going to capture one thing I'm thankful for in each posting. For this posting:

I'm thankful for... having a place to call home.

“Let's be grateful for those who give us happiness; they are the charming gardeners who make our soul bloom.”
